Lake Lecco / Como – Watersports / Jet Ski
Lake Lecco and Como are all part of the same water and together they form a huge upside down Y on the map. First of all, we can tell you that there is so much to do on the lake. In our opinion the Como side is more posh, and generally will cost more money to do things or visit restaurants etc. This is because everybody knows Como. Due to location the other side of the lake suits us more and generally it just feels a bit more normal. We usually enter the lake south of Lecco and for the jet ski or medium size boats and ribs, have found a great launch ramp. The launching ramp here is generally free during the week but is operated and owned by the community. If you launch on a weekend you will have to pay one of the local operators around €10 which is not a problem. There is somewhere to leave your vehicle and the trailer which is incredible and there is usually always space even in the high summer months. This launching area is actually on the river Adda, which is at the south of lake Lecco. Once you have launched on the lake here you can travel north and enter into the lake itself which really is huge. We generally spend about 30 minutes heading up through the lake before finding a wonderful beach to stop and make a base on.

Some things to remember if you take a JetSki on the lake… The Carabinieri who patrol the lake can often be quite strict with the rules. So make sure you have your insurance, registration or invoice of the jet ski and your nautical license with you! If they stop you and ask any questions they will definitely want to see this information. Unlike a speedboat, you are not permitted to tow anything with a person on. You could tow a paddleboard on its own for example, but nothing like a wakeboard or inflatable ride on toy. It is also important to be sensible when approaching and coming back away from any beaches or coastline of the lake. Basically if you’re sensible, no one will cause you a problem. There are some wonderful rocks to jump off, beaches with cafés and obviously many famous buildings and tourist locations, so be sure to check out the internet for more information to plan your trip to lake Lecco or Como. As with all lakes and the sea, we highly recommend making use of the boat hire companies, especially if you are in a small group, because you can hire a boat for less than €200 per day plus the fuel.
