Autumn Dolomites and Ponte di Legno Experience – Via Ferrata
With the summer over and winter slowly creeping in, there are still many fantastic experiences to be had up in the north of Italy. October and November are typically very quiet periods in the tourist areas with the summer holidays long gone and the ski season still some distance away. Prices of accommodation and activities can be lower and you can find yourself some real bargains travelling during this period. Our latest excursion takes us through the Dolomites traveling on the wonderful scenic roads through the mountain passes. There is a lot to see, and for those that enjoy trekking and the great outdoors there is a myriad of things to do and paths to take. Something that has been on our bucket list for a long time has been the
Tridentina Via Ferrata, which is a cable guided climb / trek on the dolomite rock. These cable ways through the mountains were used during the great war for soldiers to access different parts of the mountainous regions, and are now used for adventure and sport. Via Ferrata adventures are accessible to people of many different abilities and can be found all over Italy and elsewhere in Europe. A fantastic option in this part of Europe is to travel via campervan which will enable you to access many areas and sleep in different locations without the cost of hotels. During the summer and until around the first week or so into October, it is possible to use the cable cars and hire mountain bikes to take advantage of the wonderful trails in the area. Cycling in the Dolomites is breathtaking and absolutely fantastic. The scenery is spectacular, and there is so much to see and many places to stop and enjoy a rest or a wonderful lunch.
The landscape in the Dolomites is dominated by the wonderful rocks/mountains themselves, towering above and shooting out of the ground like something from another planet. There simply is no other place with such distinctive rock giants. We can’t recommend a trip around the Dolomites enough.
